Camping, Hiking and Biking: Wander the vast areas of the Blue Mountains, Elkhorn Mountains, Wallowa-Whitman or Umatilla National Forests by back roads or hiking trails or seek seclusion in the Eagle Cap Wilderness. Whether it is by vehicle, packing or walk in, there are a variety of camping experiences to enjoy that range from rustic to developed sites. There are many lakes and streams to fish, hike, swim or just enjoy the scenery. The area offers 4 state parks that offer over night or longer camping. All of this lends to various kinds of adventures for biking enthusiasts offering plenty of routes to explore.

Skiing – Winter Sports: Downhill and cross-country skiing, and several hundred miles of groomed snowmobile trails make for winter season activities in the Blue and Wallowa Mountains.

Golf: Union County offers 2 golf courses, Buffalo Peak and La Grande Country Club, and 2 miniature golf courses.

Water Sports : Swim or raft the wild rapids of the Grande Ronde River, ply the waters of the reservoirs and lakes, or soak and swim in the hot springs at Forest Cove Warm Springs, Lehman Hot Springs or the Veterans Memorial Public pool in La Grande.

Arts and Entertainment: Theatrical productions and concerts of all types are performed on the campus of Eastern Oregon University, at the Elgin Opera House and the area schools. The Grande Ronde Symphony Orchestra and a wide array of professional musicians enrich the cultural scene. An annual Grande Ronde Studio Tour and the monthly Third Thursday Art Walk showcase art by Union County artists in several shops and galleries.
